As I continue my first experience of documenting a Revit model, I come across another dilemma I need help with. Please see attached .pdf file and review the various elevation level height markings such as "TOP OF WINDOWS" and "TOP OF ROOF" along with their heights. That is what I am trying to duplicate from this AutoCAD elevation into my Revit 2008 model. I should mention that I am trying to repeat the same markings along other various height locations throughout all elevations. I have tried two methods, level heads not attached to plan views and spot elevations and unfortunately both have more cons than pros. I'll start with the level heads. First off, I cannot repeat the level head name such as "TOP OF WINDOWS" or "ROOF" more than once. Also, while the level heads are nicely disassociated with plan work, I wish I could say the same for other elevations. Some situations will not ask for the same level head in one particular location in an elevation and as a result it will require much work of hiding elements in other elevations. Now, the spot elevations. I do not like the fact that I cannot use multiple line text for these. I am able to repeat TOP OF ROOF or WINDOWS by adding it to each number as a prefix but it all stretches out to one line. Another thing is the leader, it has to stretch all the way and touch the associated object. With the level heads, I was able to keep the information on the side and stretch the plateline as far back as I wanted. And last, I cannot find the family file location for spot elevations where I can adjust the font and width factor like I did the level heads. I know I can adjust the font within the spot elevation options but the font we used requires a shrinkage of width factor. But that is not as important as the leader and single text line issue. Thank you for taking the time in reading this and hopefully you have a good solution for this. Is there a way I could like explode the leader head thus breaking it down to text and linework? I hope you guys can help out with this one. EDIT- Just discovered the tool of switching from 3D to 2D on the letter head. That helps control the platelines among all elevations better with minimal hiding. But not being able to repeat the same name is the only critical issue preventing me from using level heads successfully for this method.

I had the same issue and I ended up creating a generic annotation family that had text for the title and elevation. It was not parametric but I was able to acheive the correct look for the drawings. Hopefully this issue will be addressed in the next release.

Ah, thanks! I may not have done the exact thing you did but you made me think of doing something very similar. I went into the level head family, replaced the "Name" label with just the text saying "TOP OF ROOF" and saved it as a different file name. I wanted to keep the elevation tag intact so the general annotation would have made me lose that function. I only need two of those repeating heads for ROOF and WINDOWS so it worked out great now. Yeah, hopefully this is something they can fix for a later release. Once it is disconnected from plan views I don't see why we cannot edit the names to be repeated. Perhaps it is something that would be too complicated to set up in the programming department. But at least for now we have a workaround. Ah, I feel better now that I don't have to use those spot dimensions :D

That is also a good idea. I had forgotten that I had done the same thing as you suggested. It worked very well for all of the levels that needed the same name. Glad I could help.
