We have a historic building that is getting a new interior and we are looking to add picture rail in almost every room.  I am wondering what the best way to do this is.  I know that in the walls, you can add profiles and that would be the way I would go for most of them, but, the exterior walls are the issues.  The exterior walls could have them added as well, but not every exterior wall will have the picture rail.  For instance, one room that has a picture rail is right next to a mechanical room that will not have the picture rail, but those two rooms share the same exterior wall.  Then, to make things more complicated, some of the interior walls will have the picture rail on both sides.  Does this mean that we will have to create multiple wall types for different situations or is there a better way of doing it?

Thanks in advance.

If you want the profile to be part of the wall, then yes you will have to create a type for each situation you need. My suggestion would be to use the hosted Wall Sweep tool and add the rails to all walls that need them. This way your wall types can be more useful. This is only my opinion, though. I know the "recommended" way is to add them to the wall types.

Thanks JAMESHGRIMES.  I actually just found that host sweep thing right before you posted your response, but it is good to know that someone else would do it that way too.  So, I think that is the way I am going to go for now, the only issue is that it seems I will have to have interior elevations for every wall in every room or a section cutting through a bunch of rooms in order to put the sweep on the walls.  Thats ok for now since the building really doesn't have that many rooms.  Does anyone know a quick way to add the sweeps to the walls without having to create a bunch of interior elevations?

Thanks again.

I try to place the sweeps in a 3d view if at all possible. You can adjust the height of the sweep, the end points, and add/remove walls, all in 3D view. I will then us the elevations to fine tune the sweeps. I will usually go ahead and create interior elevations for all rooms anyway, just to have them as working elevations. This process does get tedious but I believe the end result is worth it. With hosted sweeps you can control visibility more than you can if they were part of the wall.

Thanks once again JAMESHGRIMES.  All the above sounds good to me.  I appreciate your help.
