I have been using autocad since 1983, 25 years, and I'm brand new to Revit.  I am learning on my own without classes, so far.  I have read and tried to follow 2 Sybex books: Introducing Revit architecture 2008 & Mastering Revit Architecture 2008.  Both were disappointing. I was able to complete a small project and I was impressed with the potential of Revit.

I hopw I can get answers here and to some basic questions. My first question:  Is it possible to show window tags in elevation views?

Yes, just go to the Drafting Tab, select 'Tag by Category'. and hover your mouse over the window. You will have to have the window tag loaded in the project, but otherwise you should be able to show the tag in elevation/section.

Any modelled element can be tagged in any view (with the exception of 3D views).

Welcome to Revit.  Be prepared to forget all that Acad stuff, it will just hold you Revit learning back Puh
