When I save family for an example lighting fixture ceiling based, the 3D view created shows top of the ceiling while utwhile I saw in one of the family the view saves as thumbnail do not show ceiling. I have attached the file where thumbnail view is created. Can you pleae help me how to do it.I know model lines can be seen in and on a 3D surface but why do we need to draft them.

answer to first question: ceilings were turned off in your 3d view. if you want to see them in the thumbnail view, they should be turned on.

I don't understand what you are asking in the second question. why draft model lines? could you explain a little more?

I have seen in some families that model lines are drawn in plan. What is the need of drawing model lines when we can view the object in plan

I agree. Guess it doesn't hurt though unless you for certain don't need to see something in 3d, such like a door swing.
