Paul, The advice I would give you is this. As our society moves forward we realize that we cannot keep consuming all our natural resources, I think Al Gore said this bluntly in his movie. However, my point is to keep your model simple, only create the shells and important features, use as much renewable/sustainable resources (ie. wind, solar, biomass, rainwater collection, geothermal) as possible where ever the location, and also think of the synergies that may be put in and taken out of the design. Currently I am working with the Center for Sustainable Cities via The University of Kentuky. Here is there website, perhaps it will spark some ideas . . . http://www.centerforsustainablecities.com/ Cheers and Good Luck.

G-day, Ive got to do something similar to the fella with the city house, My school project is a narrow infill site, long and narrow the measurements are 10meters x 37 meters. ive thought about different renewable, recyclable materials. and the embodied energies it has taken to produce the material/product. Solar orientation, thermal mass, cross flow ventitlation, solar panels, solar hotwater &landscaping are all well and good but on a long skinny block that has houses nearly built on the boundries how can i achieve the best out come? Cheers, WillBendigo Australia

Paul, Like you I started out in my career at an early age, 14 years old. Now after 29 years, I can tell you are already on the right track. Here's my advice: Learn by doing. Learn by watching. Learn by listening. Continue with your project, work through as much as you can on your own. When you need direction, after you do your own research, ask for help. When you get the chance look at what others have done already. Consider visiting a city planner or design firm for inspiration and guidance. Good luck. John
