Well, I am a new user of Revit. I took the Revit Architecture Fundamentals last week. I am so excited about using the software. I am however not looking forward to the inital setup of our office deaults etc. I had a conversation with my boss, who also took the fundamental course with me. I told him that I thought the best way for us to start the switch to Revit would be to just start drawing simple house plans, and develop our prototype dwg as we went along. I understand that there will be a bit of tinkering with setting things up. But i figured we could kill 2 birds with one stone, and get some drawings done at the same time. I was curious as to how some of you went about integrating Revit into you workflow without too many hiccups.

Looking forward to hearing from anyone, and scratching the bowels of this site. I am enjoying the great advice, and sense of community here.

Hi Tim!

I tihnk your idea about the best way to start is a good one- we did a similar thing, just jumber right in and started using. Personally, I wouldn't contemplate trying to get the system set up 100% for your office before you start using it on a project, becuase (with all repsect) you don't know enough about how it works, to know what you need in a bespoke default setup.

 

I woudl suggest just getting some drawing sheets / title blocks set up for your company and then just dive in and have some fun. I'm sure you'll be asking loads of questions- but it's all good fun! You sound like you're pretty excited about it all, which is an absolute must- you'll help drive the learning curve for others in your office who will (inevitably) find it quite daunting.

Thanks Ian.

Showed up to work this morning, and the boss had made a small list of things he thought needed to be sorted out. Including titleblocks, window/ door tags, and font. I reassured him that most of that could be tinkered with while drawing. I agree that a titleblock needs to be set up before we get to far into drawing in plans.
