Is it possible to have the same symbol show up in all my plan views?  I am wanting my North arrow to be in all views inthe same spot.  So if I move it on floor two...it moves in floor one.  Thanks,

Lorne

Draw two reference planes (x and y) on the lowest level.  Insert the North arrow and lock it to the reference planes in both the x and y directions.  Insert the North arrow on all subsequent levels, locking them to the same reference planes as well.  When you want to move the North arrow, move the reference planes, not the North arrow (Revit won't let you move the North arrow anyway, as it is constrained).  Since all the north arrows are constrained to the two reference planes, all of the North arrows will move when the reference planes are moved in any view.  HTH.

Cheers.

Ok just kidding that didn't work...I don't get what I'm doing wrong.  I drew two Ref Planes on our bottom level.  Then locked the symbol on both axis'.  Then went to our second floor...and no dice.  Nothing there.  I went to the view properties and set the bottom of the view plane to unlimited.  Still nothing but the ref planes.

you need to add the symbol to every level and lock it to the ref plane at every level.  The annotations only will show up in the view they are drawn (they are not model objects), the ref planes just enable you to lock annotations together so when you move one, they all move.  If you wanted to do this with view depths and or plan regions, you would need to make your north arrow out of model lines, but there are some inherent problems with that strategy, so I would just keep it with a symbol at each level locked to those two reference planes.

Cheers.

Your north arrow is only a 2d element - you have to insert it in every view where you want it.  If you just copy it to clipboard from your first level, you can then paste it same place in each plan and lock it to the reference planes as described.

We don't put our symbols on the plan.  Instead, we put it on the sheet with the title.  Seems to make more sense there.

We, too have the North arrow in our titleblock.  We then added a yes/no parameter to control the view (don;t want a North arrow on the elevation sheets) and then we also added a project parameter for the angle of North, so that the angle can be controlled on all sheets.  It really depends on your office standards as to what makes the most sense for you.
