I am new to Revit Structure 2008.  Does it matter what version or "brand" of CAD software that is used to generate a CAD file that would be imported/linked into a Revit project?  If my architect client(s) send me a revised dwg file that has ay one wall moved, is there anything that is "automatic" that would change my Revit model to match the revised dwg file?  Is their a established relationship between the entities in the CAD file and the objects in the Revit model?  Or do I just have to "look" for the revision(s) and manually change my Revit model for every revision that would be made.  Does this make sense?  I have done some Autolisp programming a few years back and am aware of all of the different variables pertaining to an entity (a line for example).  That is why I am wondering if the entity from the CAD file is "related" to the object in the Revit model created from the imported/linked CAD file.

If you have "linked" the CAD file into the Revit file it should update when it is changed. If you have just "inserted" the CAD file there is no link relationship between the two.

There will be no automatic revisions to your REVIT model from a linked AutoCAD file, you will have to make the revisions.  This linked CAD file will show up as an underlay/overlay and will reflect it's changes if you reload it.  As I understand it, if you set your model up to monitor linked REVIT files, you can accept/reject automatic changes.

I'll play with this some more.  Are you saying that some "coded" description of a entity (line, for example) in the 2D CAD file is communicating with the "coded" Revit model?

NO!  Sorry.

There is no smart linking between a CAD file and REVIT.  Only between REVIT files.
