in my section i have 2 walls, below ground level and above, essentially it is one wall but i have 2 bits on each level. my problem is, in section i have a line where they join - can i remove this?

You can use the linework tool (upper left hand button that looks like a fountain pen). Click on it, go to the pulldown menu and select "Invisible Lines" and then click on the line. You may need to do this a few times because you are actually removing lines from both walls and from the far end of both walls. If you ever need to undo this condition later you just click the linework tool again and from the pulldown select "By catagory" for the linetype and then click on the lines again to restore them to thier former appearance.
