Hello, everybody! I am sure this question has been asked over and over again...but, I must ask it again! I would certainly appreciate all insights and opinions on why REVIT is better that AutoCAD. I do believe that REVIT is better than AutoCAD but I havent used REVIT that much...just messed with it here and there. I would really like to put some good stuff on a proposal to convince my bosses to start transitioning from ACAD to REVIT. PLEASE HELP! Thank you very much! AJ

Check out the augi forums on similar threads there are plenty there... But IMHO Acad doesn't even compare... Acad --> wall changes, have to go through every drawing and change the wall. Revit --> wall changes, move wall or change type and its automatically updated in all views and you can be sure you haven't missed any. HTH.

Personnally, I don't think ACAD should be comparable to REVIT unless you are using ACAD with ADT. ACAD without ADT can't do rendering & walkthrough (unless you export out to 3D MAX or other rendering program); REVIT can do it all in one program. ACAD without proper plug-in or LISP programs can't do quantity & area estimation/ scheduling; REVIT can do it in one program & export the data out to Excel, Access etc for further calculation. Mr. Spot is talking about design change management & REVIT is far too superiority in this area compared to ACAD (if you are only using ACAD LT or ACAD alone, not too sure about ADT). Just imagine you can do changes in any view, plan, section, elevation or 3D view, the changes will reflect back in every aspects, every sheets and every scheduling. Besides that, you can convert REVIT file into ACAD dwg file or import dwg file to REVIT for drafting or sketching but ACAD cannot read or import any REVIT file to further manipulation. Talking about file superiority... Not to mention REVIT's capabilities to do phasing, design options, energy calculation & workset...& Talking about the future of REVIT, I think the roadmap of the future REVIT series will incorporate structural & MEP usages too....Really looking forward to the time of future REVIT

hey, Mr. Spot...thanks...AUGI has a wealth of information when it comes to what people think of REVIT. MAN! SOME OF THOSE PEOPLE ARE HARDCORE...theyre like religious fanatics when it comes to the programs they use. and ale02...thanks to you toO! plain and simple explanation on why its a perfectly good thing to switch from ACAD to REVIT. NOW! if i can only come up with a really good plan on how we can transition...I'm gonna have to get to know REVIT myself before I turn in my proposal so I know what the hell Im talking about instead of second hand information...but if any of you have some good advice and actually went through this experience...SHARE WITH ME OH, WISE ONE! TRANSITION HAS BEEN THE HARDEST FOR ME. I AHVE BEEN USING REVIT FOR 2 1/2 YEARS NOW. ALL OF MY NEW DESIGNS ARE DONE ON REVIT. IT JUST CAN'T FIND THE TIME I NEED TO GET OLD HOUSES CHANGED OVER. DOES ANYONE KNOW OF A GOOD REVIT OUT SOURCE FOR CONVERSION.
