Hello, my name is Richard and I am a newbie to the site and to Revit. Lots of experience with ADT and Accurender, but a bug in our ADT (now Architecture 200Shadey has forced us to take a look at Revit - and so far I am glad we did. I am a High School teacher and we have subscribed to the Autodesk Design Academy. I worked as a architectural designer with ADT for 15+ years prior to starting the teaching gig 4 years ago. I and my students love Revit! I was thrilled to see that Accurender was a part of the Revit package. It may not be the most sophisticated rendering package out there, but it is easy to use and I have enough experience with it to be able to help my students make it work. We are having two issues right now that we could use some help with;

1. Saves are slow and sometimes problemaic. The way that Revit creates multiple backup files and numbers them is confusing. Students have a hard time understanding that revitfile.0005 is older than revitfile.0004 and so on.

2. A bigger problem is the difficulty we are having with assigning Accurender materials to certain components, namely generic walls and roofs. We cannot distinquish interior surfaces from exterior surfaces on walls. We have not been able to get any assigned material to render on a roof. Any and all help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks, Rich

Richard

I also teach part-time and Revit will be introduced next quarter.  I will give you my experienced opinion on your issues.  I assume that you do not have kick-curse processors which could lead to slow and problematic saves.  If processing speed is not the issue, then maybe the autosave settings need to be changed.  If your students are having trouble with the file name/number, then I suggest checking the file detail for the date.

Accurender materials are assigned to an object/family or to the objects within a family.  Make a wall that has an interior finish different from the exterior by editing the wall and either duplicating it and/or renaming it.  Once you edit the wall and add, let's say 5/8" gyp to a metal stud wall with a brick exterior, then change the accurender material for each element in the structure.

I hope this info helps.

Jonathan

Thanks Jonathan,

Not sure what you mean by kick-curse processors, but these are brand new machines speced out with the help of the Autodesk vendor. Core Duo processors, lots of ram and a boosted video card. The program saves fast on my less impressive laptop. I think the problem is our network, which will be much better by the middle ofJanuary - in our new school building. I understand what you are saying about the material assignments. The generic walls and roofs can only be one material throughout. Unless.., can you split the faces and paint? I have seen this process detailed elsewhere on the forum.

Thanks for your help,

Richard

Kick-Butt processors.  Words that are used on TV after 8PM are not allowed to be posted on the forum.

Just a thought...

Perhaps the files could be saved to temp drives or hard drives, then saved to the network afterwards.

If you did not catch it, kick-curse was a substitute for kick-@$$ processors.

The moderators probably changed it after submittal for several legal reasons.
