I'm using 2-pick families instead of wall sweeps for base and crown mouldings so that I can have just the symbolic lines (at the desired line weights) that I need visible in interior elevations. 

The sweeps that I'm using in the 2-pick family are set to be visible only in Left/Right.  When I place them in the model, everything looks good until I join the base/crown to the wall (so that it shows correctly when cut in section).  After joining to the wall, the 2-pick family sweep is displayed in Front/Back - in spite of the settings in the family.  Is this normal?
