I have a brick veneer wall system and can't figure out or don't really know the best way to add a recessed brick panel. And to make it more difficult the recessed panel would have a herringbone pattern. Recess would only be 1"-2". I'm using Revit Arhcitecture 2008.

A couple of options: A Stacked Wall OR a Basic/Compound Wall with a wall Reveal and a separate material painted to the reveal to give the herringbone pattern... HTH.

I think this would best be done with a family that has a vopid the size of your panel and a veneer withit that has your herringbone design. You can then place that anywhere.

Hmm, I didn't think the actual shape of the recess was herringbone shaped... As such I would make it as a face based generic model void setup with an array that can be dragged out similar to a line based family.

Just to clarify my post, I did not mean a herringbone shaped area. I suggested a family with a void to cut the wall and a face that had a herringbone pattern / accurender material either assigned to it our poured on its face.
