How is everybody drawing countertops? I found a few families that are baiscally just sweeps, but then I have to create a new family for each condition (L, Double L, Reverse L, U, etc.) I am also having problems punching holes in the countertops.

Would it be best to just create a profile family and just do sweeps inside of the model? If so how do you get that sweep to live in the casework object styles (so that my filters work)? And can you punch holes in a sweep?

For right now I just got frustrated and am useing a 1.5" thick roof.... it works but isnt in the right object style or material which poses a problem for our estimating department.

component

metric/imperial libary

casework

kitchen

then choose the counter top that is closest to your needs and edit the family, the counters are normally made from extrusions so just edit the extrusion and draw your hole.

I've tried various methods from using floors or roofs, to in place families and found that the sweep profile works best for me. Creating the in place sweep from a predefined kitchen or vanity profile under the "casework" category should still maintain your visibility criteria. Set it at the proper height and place your sink at the proper height and cut the void.

I would create my own family component.

Create parameters for depth, thickness, length, radius of bullnose. Set material

Then just drop into model and stretch to desired dimensions.

King Revit: how do you deal with multiple runs? (i.e. L, double L, U, island, etc.)

Dogfrey:  how do you add a void/ hole to a  sweep?

again i would use one of the pre-made famlies there are L shaped U shaped ect, i would modify them though, usually with extra parameters (similar to what IDN101 suggests) so i can drive them in the project,

Make a line based generic family. Create an extrusion and lock it to referance plane that will give oyu height and width. For length just lock it to the pre-definded referance planes. When you bring it into the project you can now stretch it with ease. It can also be joined with another instance to make the counter top look lik one object. If needs be you can go so far as to create parameters for voids that cut your counter top. That would be my approach.

(Dogfrey:  how do you add a void/ hole to a  sweep? )

Select sweep:EditConfusedoid FormConfusedoid ExtrusionSadi usually tab the border of the sink which creates the boundary)Set extrusion properties(if counter is set vertially at 3' and is 1 1/2" thick, set void for 3' start, 2'-10 1/2" end):Finish sketch:Finish family. No need to cut geometry.

The problem i had with the pre-defined counters was always tweaking lengths and opening positions/shapes, not to mention the doglegs and chamfers but for simple 'L's and straights, they work fine.

Hi there, I haven't been online for a while. Just a comment on what you said. Yes it wont automatically schedule under casework but what you could do is resign it to the casework category. What you do is go to Settings>Family Category and Parameters and change it to the casework category and thn you should be able to schedule it under casework.
