This topic has come up repeatedly in the office as of whether or not Revit can “do connections.” Since this is a new topic to me, I’ll do my best to explain what I mean. I’m referring to connections that are done in software programs such as ProSteel, where the software analyzes the structure and places the appropriate connections and bracings between columns and beams based on what type of beam/column they are and for how long they span. In addition to this, these connections will update automatically as the model changes, eg, move a grid line which will make a beam span a longer distance and the connection will update based on what is needed to connect that span of beam to the column or other beam.

Now I’ve seen a folder for connections in Revit, but after doing some of the tutorials I am left wondering if these connections in Revit are just detail items that have to be manually placed and updated or whether they have any ‘intelligence’ attached to them. Any comments on this topic that we help me better understand Revit and its capabilities would be infinitely helpful.

(Currently using Revit Structure and Architecture 200Shadey

Thank You

IF THERE IS SOME SORT OF "LIVE" OR "SMART" CONNECTION, I HAVE NOT SEEN IT YET.

I THINK YOU ARE CORRECT BY THINKING THE CONNECTIONS ARE SIMPLY DETAIL COMPONENTS.

(Sorry, cap locks)

Thanks for the insight, but I'm a little curious as to how Revit does 'load calculations' without knowing the connections? Of course I haven't tried doing load calc. just yet...
