Hello all. I have a hipped gable roof and i would like to create a dormer opening in it. The problem i'm having is that it wount allow me to connect the bounding lines on the lower part (seperate roof) or the upper part. Do i need to first connect the two roof systems? If so, how did i do that? I've attached an image. Thanks.

Oh and im using Revit Architecture 2008. Just saw the request to add version. Thanks.

I would try the 'Join Roof' command first but i have mixed results with that so usually i will just extend the boundaries of the roof so that it extends into the main roof while in sketch mode. Then 'join geometry' with the roofs and then while viewing the roof plan in hidden line model graphics, you can add reference lines to the valleys which will allow you to resketch the roof to eliminate any overlap. Cut the opening below the dormer with the 'opening' command in your model tab.
