I am new to Rivet MEP and I am trying to download content from Revit Web Library.  When I download and try to place the device on the arch walls that are reference in the device won't attach or display.  If i draw my own wall it will work.  Also I want to place light switches to the light plan but the doors do not show up.  What's up with that?  Gosh, I use to be a productive Autocad work!

it sounds like you are linking the arch model into mep. the problem your enountering is that there are no actual walls there. yes i know it looks like there is in the 3d, section, and elevation plans however you need to utilize the copy/moniter command. or redraw the entire arch model. if this is not what your doing it could be the visibility/ graphic overrides, elements are hidden in view, or the view depth needs to changed.

Thank you for your response.  I have been having problems and my project is going out in a few weeks.  I will try the copy/monitor thing when I get stuck with that problem again.  I find this issue mostly with wall mounted lighting fixtures.  I fixed my view depth just the other day and that didn't seem to help either.  I will continue to plug along with Revit.

Be aware that there are different types of families in Revit, hosted vs. non-hosted.  Hosted families need a host object say a wall for example and if the family was created needing a wall then you must have a wall in your project for the object to host itself on to.  Walls from Revit files that are linked in do not count as the previous post points out.  Most if not all of the content in MEP is 'face based' meaning it does not need a host just the face of an object to act as a workplane for the object and that object can be in the linked file.  An electrical device for instance can be placed on a wall in the linked file, but it does not penetrate the wall it mearly sits on the face of the wall.
Hope this helps clear up the issue.

OMG where were you guys 2-3 weeks ago.  I have been pulling my hair trying to figure this out.  The in the box wall based items work great, but are so few, so I have been trying to bring in some from the web library and have only been frustrated by the whole thing.  I have made my own for now and hopefully I will be able to replace with the web base content.

thank you so much for your response.
