Is there a way to make a wall opening that doesn't cut through the wall. In other words, a niche in a wall that can be used for built-in cabinetry. I'm using 2008 version. If anyone knows how to, please let me know. Thank you

You can use the Hosted reveal and draw your profile. Reveals cut geometry out of walls. HTH

You could also create a family, using generic model hosted in a wall, and create a void form with in the wall (make sure you tell revit to "cut" the wall geometry with the void form). That way you can add molding or any other details to the opening and just repeat it as a family in the model.
