This is an informational thread for those of you considering purchasing a new computer to un Revit Architecture 2008.

We recently purchased 4 new Dell computers (3 Precision Workstation Desktops, and 1 Precision Laptop).  The computers all had Windows Vista and Norton Security Center.  When Revit was installed on the computer, it seemed to work OK.  However, once the portbale license utility was used, Revit was slowed down to a crawl.  Example is switching to a section view would take 15-20 seconds.  After much head scratching, I found that only two things could solve the lag; one was to export the license and work in demo mode, which is useless, and the other was by shutting off Norton Auto-Protect.  Both solutions eliminated the problem Cryingsaid section switch now took only 1-2 seconds).  Neither of these options I found to be acceptable.

I uninstalled Norton from the laptop and replaced it with Microsoft's OneCare.  Not that I enjoy "feeding the Microsoft Beast", but Revit now works without lag with OneCare running.  And I'd rather feed the beast and be protected, as opposed to shutting off my protection from Norton.

I contacted Norton and Autodesk about the problem, and althought Autodesk was very helpful, the only solution Norton could offer was to reinstall the operating system.

So, just a heads up based on our experiences here.  I would be curious if anyone else has had similar issues.
