I am very new to Revit and I am having a really hard time with design options.  I can't even add walls in the main model now without getting errors about the objects being related to design options.

there just seem to be so many limitations in design options, are they even worth using?

i'm going through this issue as well.  in residential architecture it's all about multiple elevations and multiple options per plan.

I believe the issue we're both experiencing has to do with wall sweeps and/or elements hosted on a certain wall that was added to another design option previously.  the only work around i've been able to find involves a lot of copy pasting of the issue walls and tons of redoing all the phase setting on additional elements that are brought over from being linked to an element while existing in another phase.

Design options are tough until you understand the rules.  Basically they are:

  1. You can not edit a design option element unless you are in the edit function for that option.
  2. Hosted elements can only be hosted by elements in the same option.
Design options work pretty well and se have used them for complicated projects.
