This is more of an explanation of the differences between "massing" elements and "generic models" than a problem solve but it might be helpful to others...

I was struggling with getting massing elements to print as needed and I searched the "Technical Support" items for "massing and printing, etc." and I wasn't finding responses that fixed the issue.  In short, I had created a solid sweep using an in-place mass (Create>Mass>Solid Form...) that created a coping for a "monument" type of sign for a project.  I then applied a metal material to it (0% transparency).  The massing was showing correctly on all views and sheets but when printing, it would show up as if it were "wireframe" rather than "hidden lines."  "Show Mass" was on and under "Visibility/Graphics>Massing" everything was checked "on."

The "fix" was to delete the "mass" and instead re-create the element as a "generic model" (Create>Generic Model>Solid Form...).  Now it prints fine.

I do not know enough about Revit to discuss the virtues of a simple "Mass" over a "Generic Model" but from a "newbie" perspective, I would say that a "Mass" should be used in an instance such as, you need a sloped wall, wherein you would create a mass with the slope needed and then create the wall "by face" and turn the "mass" off afterwards.  The mass is just a vehicle to get what you need, then is turned off.  If you need something like a stone parapet cap that will show solid in views and prints, then create a "Generic Model."

Edit: Tip suggested by Rachel in Minneapolis.  Mad props Rachel!
