how would i do very fine details, in a door and window jam. i know i could draw it, but it wouldn't show over the edge of the wall. help please.

also has any one heard of data cad?

Use your edit cut profile tool to edit the model elements then add your 2d linework.

I've used DataCad for about a year or so.  It is a functional CAD program but doesn't really have the capabilities that it claims to.  I'm sure I'll anger someone with this but its really an AutoCad knock-off.

Have you done the detailing tutorials?  Basically you use what you can of the model or you can switch it to an underlay. ONce you get good with modelling and encorporating detail compontents into your families and profiles you'll have very little linework/ filled region work to do in your window and door details.
