While I've found posts regarding showing the roof outline on a floor plan, I have not been able to find and answer to the opposite...

How do you show the building footprint on a roof plan. I need to show where the underlying walls are located underneath the roof overhangs.

I've tried an underlay, but it shows the interior walls, furniture, etc. and won't show the exterior wall surface line; as it meets the various roof pitches. I tried to use the linework tool with the floor plan underlay, but it didn't show after I turned off the underlay.

Any suggestions?

Thanks.

I tried using model lines and that seems to work ok, but would I be better off doing something else so that if I move a wall the line will update?

What might be the easiest way of doing this is to shut off all things except windows, doors, walls, and roofs in visibilty graphics.  Then change your view depth and turn Model Graphic Style to Wireframe.  That should get you to see the outline on your roof plan.  Underlay may not have worked because you didnt have wireframe on, so even as an underlay they were getting covered by your roof.
