Hello, Has any one used Revit mainly for getting estimation of quantities (BOQs)? How accurate has the results been? I have this project on hand for a detailed and accurate BOQ. Thanks in advance.

no I havn't used it to create BOQ, but Revit will schedule all your elements, so when you say how accurate, very accurate you can set cost for any element in Revit, walls, windows or taps, what ever you want.

i am sachid i have used revit 2008 for extracting BOQ from revit model and it is accurate but for that your model should be accurately modeled.as i have taken BOQ of structural colums beams in count and the amount of concrete going to be used to .

There was a guy talking about estimating from Revit at our last user group meeting. He said that he found Revit is actually to accurate. In that it measures pure quantity but there is no allowance for framing around windows and doors as well as the normal mark up for waste (ie you dont use 100% of all drywall sheets) They wer talking abuot actually having to add a mark up or fudge factor due to these accuracy issues. Just something to think about as you schedule and cost out items. Nick

Radhikase, Your not going to get a true bill of materials out of Revit because you don't model every last detail in Revit. That is why you need to connect Revit--which does the quantities--to estimating software which is easy to work with assemblies of objects. For example, you might have a sink or some other object, but you probably don't have every part to connect the sink, which is where the assemblies come in. Check out Innovaya's Visual Estimating and other products. That might get you what you need or you might want to use it's connection to Sage Timberline. Innovaya's Visual Estimating program I saw in a web conference was really cool. We already use Timberline and we are getting Innovaya's software in the coming year. --Jim
