In autocad we have seporate layers for grid dimensions and other dimensions.  Can you do this in Revit?

I assume you mean when exporting your dimensions to AutoCAD?

If not, then are you just referring to being able to have different dimensions styles for different conditions.  Which of course is possible by duplicating an existing dimension style and modifying its settings.

When exporting all your dimensions will come out on the same layer but they can still appear differently.

I'm sorry, yes I was refering to dimentions as they are exorpted to AutoCAD.  If I creat a different dimension style and therefore make them look different in AutoCAD, can looking different mean being a different color or something to alow me to sort them out once in AutoCAD?  That way maybe there can be a lisp routine to put them on a different layer.

Thanks,

Vaughn

Most likely they'll all come out as the same colour and layer...  And all revit dimensions are export on the "standard" dimension style...  As soon as you try modifying they'll revert back to their default display for standard in autocad anyways...

My ask why this is so critical?  Are you dumping your documentation to autocad and doing it their for some reason?

We have in house stuctural, mechanical and electrical engineers.  Architecturaly when we do a project in AutoCAD we will put different dimensions on different layers.  That way the other disiplines can show just the dimensions they need.  We are now starting to do our architectural work in Revit but have not moved the other disiplines to Revit yet.  We are looking at ways to give them what they are accustom to getting.  The plan is to eventually get everyone on to Revit.
