Hi all New revit user, trying to setup a door family that will have a parameter for inserting the door 55mm off a wall. Any ideas would be appreciated. Brett

Looking at all the properties of your Referenec Planes 2 of them (one horizontal in plan, and one vertical in plan) will have a box checked saying "Defines Origin". What you need to do is you need to make crossing refrence planes (if not there) 55mm from the door where your wall would be, and then another going along the face of the wall. Make thoes two define the origin, and that will make your insertion point where you have to click the intersecting walls where you want the door to be. HTH Grant Doherty

thanks for the reply grant sholud i be using reference plane or line i did try both and i did check on define origin but to no avail. Does anyone have an example of these doors or of an insertion point used for something else i could have a look at. Just cant seem to get this to work. Do i need to change any settings to stop revit wonting to bring in these objects at 20mm intervals. Almost like a grid reference or snap.

Reference planes, click on the refrence plan, go to Element Properties like with any componant, then at the bottom is a check box that says "Defines Origin" make sure the two that intersect at the walls both have that checked. Im not sure about your objects snapping at 20mm, my guess is thats not the issue.
