does anyone know if there has ever been anyone that worked out all the most useful shortcut keys and assigned the best keys for the left hand?

I think that this is more of a personal preference.

not exactly sure how it's personal.. we all use the mouse with one hand and use the other hand on the keyboard.. the hand on the keyboard just needs to have easy access to those shortcut keys. if the keys are set to WP everyone will need to take one hand off the mouse.. ANY shortcut key combination that lets one hand work the keyboard without disrupting the mouse or your eyes is probably what everyone wants..

I use a gaming keypad for my left hand. It is called a Nostromo N52. Here is a link. http://catalog.belkin.com/IWCatProductPage.process?Product_Id=157024. This keypad is ergonomic, and very comfortable for the left hand. It also adds a Dpad and an extra scroll wheel. All of the buttons on the pad are 100% programable (including macros) and the shift feature allows for about 144 combinations. I have all of the buttons on the toolbars programmed in the order that they appear on the screen. Then when I shift, I get all of my numbers, plus ' and ". You get the picture. This has proved to be very fast. Think one button shortcuts rather than 2 button shortcuts. Plus, with the ergo design my left hand never gets lost. Since, the keys are programmed in the software that comes with the keypad, I didn't have to change the default shortcuts. This way, if someone comes to my computer, they can use the keyboard just like normal, without messing with my custom keypad. Hope this helps.
