The pattern in my filled regions are too dark. how do you make them lighter?

Not totaly sure, but try changeing the scale on the hatching part of your filled region, at the scale you are looking at all the little parts of the hatch may be just all mashing together making it really dark.

That is not the problem. I can see all of the lines, they are just very thin and light gray. They do not show up well when printed.

change the color go into properties of your region, then select edit, then change the color from black to gray
