Hello all,

RA '08 is making it difficult for me to have duplicate marks on the doors in my project.  I can change them and ignore the "duplicate" warning, and it will stick.  However, if I edit door properties in the group editor, Revit force-changes all of the other instances of the door to unique marks.  The project has a lot of unit repetition so I have to use groups and don't want to exclude all of the doors.  There is so much repetition that I'd rather have a "count" field instead of itemizing every door.   The problem is that I am using the "mark" the way "type mark" should be used, because I'm already using the "type" field in the schedule to distinguish other parameters (hardware groups, operation, etc).  Is there a workaround for this? Am I missing something incredibly easy?

Thanks in advance,

k

We have not yet moved to REVIT Architecture (still on 9.1) and we do hotels that utilize the same "mark" number for doors.  On 9.1 this does not seem to be a problem but we are ready to move up and I'm sorry to hear I may have to deal with this.

My solution to the problem would be to add a new shared parameter to do my door numbers and to change my door tag to look at that.

Have no fear, the upgrades to the group editor in '08 far outweigh any scheduling issues that I'm having.  BTW, the shared parameter did the trick. thanks again. k

WWHub - How do I add a shared parameter to a door number and then change the door tag to look at that? I'm new to Revit and have not had any luck working with shared parameters.

I have a related query (I think).

I am working on apartment buildings with repeating apartment types that are model groups of walls and doors.

Its now come time to tag the doors, and my aim is to have three fields under identity data (instance fields) to enter info (Apartment Type, Apartment Number, Door Number). So I created shared parameters to achieve this and it works fine for any doors that are NOT in groups.

However when it comes to doors within groups, the only instance parameter available to me is the 'Mark' field. The shared parameter fields appear greyed out and i cant edit them outside of the group editor. I can edit them inside the group editor, but that then changes all corresponding doors in other groups to the same value.

Does anyone know how to get a grouped door to have more than one field to enter instance information?

I suggest you remove the doors from the group after placement so that they are now in the model.
