quick question, Does anyone know how to apply a new pattern to a floor? we've created a pattern that we would like the floor to be, but can't apply that specific pattern to the actual floor we created using the floor tool?

You have to apply it in the Material as a surface or cut pattern. Go To Settings-->Materials, select the material that is used in the floor, apply the pattern in the Surface Pattern or Cut pattern. FYI - You can only apply Drafting materials as Cut Patterns. You can either Drafting or Model Patterns as surface Patterns.
