I previously posted this in the wrong section, so sorry if you have read this post already.  New to Revit and this site!

Hi all.  I hope someone can help me with a problem about tagging light fixtures and switches.

In our office, we associate switches and light fixtures with letters, not connecting it with lines as do most offices, ex: LF-5  is also tagged with an "a" if it is switched by Switch "a".

I am having trouble setting up Revit so that I can do this.  I don't know how to modify either the light fixture family, or the light fixture tag to accomplish what I want to be done.  Right now, ALL the LF-5's in my Revit file will be tagged "LF-5 X" indicating control by one and the same switch because of how the tags are set up.  I want to do this a smart way and not have 200 pieces of individual text floating around in plan.  How do I set up the light fixture family or how do I change the tag properties to do this in a smart way?

Does anyone else do this convention in their RCP/ power plans?  How have you guys worked it out?  Please let me know if I haven't explained my problem clearly, and I will try to clarify.

Thanks in advance for your help.

Yes, we do it the same way.  You are not alone in this world:-)

I just fill in the 'comment' field which is an intant parameter.  This will then have an a or b as required.  You must select each light that belong to one switch.  I change the tag to include this field.  This is a basic Revit procedure which you will use for many tags to make them work to your liking

You Click the tag and click adit.  On the left side you will then have a 'lable'  tag.  From then on you should be home :-)

For the switch, we just add text to suite

Did this answer you question?

Thanks for your reply, Erik.  I did a quick test of the technique you suggested and I think it will work.

Good suggestion, I will try to familiarize myself more with editting parameters.
