Hello all, I'm trying to set up a titleblock template for a coming project, and need to figure out a way to have the north arrow able to be turned on or off on a sheet by sheet basis. An example would be that it is turned on in a floor plan sheet, but turned off on a perspective render...but is always initially present in the titleblock template. In my dreams, the arrow would also be able to tell which direction in the model is North, and pivot to respond...but I'm having a tough enough time with basic conditional formulas...This is why I quit engineering school for architecture!

As for having a north arrow as an instance parameter you should select the arrow, and go to the properties and set the visibilty equal to some parameter that you make up. This should be able to togle it on and off. As for the sheet knowing which way north is, im not seeing any way of doing this. I dont know what type you guys are doing, but normally we would have more than one view per sheet, and North doesnt always stay consistant per view. The way we always do it is just by placing the arrow in the view, not as part of the sheet. I could just see alot of issues with having one north arrow per sheet.

I agree that there are a lot of possible complications, and thanks for the advice. Right now it's just a couple of us in the office exploring just how automated and effecient we can make Revit. As you probably know, a lot of people run around making big promises that the program may or may not be able to deliver on...

Just to re-iterate: North arrow with Visibility definitely possible (we do this) - Instance Parameter North arrow with Adjustable Angle (we do this) - Type parameter so you only set it once for the project. Adjustable north arrow linked to true north - Not Possible as of Revit 2008. I disagree with north varying a lot on sheets. North should always be the same direction for all views on a sheet. If it varies it should be on a different sheet (varying to many times just confuses the issue). We typically have north the same for the whole project and then one site plan/location plan with true north up the page. HTH.

I agree about varying Norths, I just meant for sheets with Details, Elevations, Sections, not nesicarily floor plans and RCPs.

Yeah, I agree with you guys on that issue, too. The intention is to have a titleblock that can be used for all projects n the office, so the only variance in direction (on the page) of north would be between projects. Just trying to make things as automated/standardized as possible.
