I am doing a tenant suite and linked the building shell and corridor sytem into my drawing. The wall hosted family needs to be placed on a linked wall but Revit will not allow it. Is there a way around this?

Why are you linking in the shell and corridors? A linked file can't host anything since it can be unlinked which would cause everything hosted by it to be deleted. Just the same as doors and windows are deleted if you delete the wall hosting them. My advice is put your whole model in one revit project and use worksets if you need to divide work to multiple people.
