We're working on a large rental property in Revit and need to get the storefront elevation stepping to the grading. I have this autocad file which is accurate to our civil engineers specs, but I can't get the toposurface command to work in such a way that I can use it to step the storefront correctly.

Does anyone have any advices as to how to handle this?

Thanks,

-Joe

What version of revit are you using?  In 2008 this is easier.  I haven't looked at your file.

You could just edit the profile of the wall or you can use floor point edits to match the topo and then attach the base of the wall to the floor.

I'm assuming its sloped rather than stepped?

It's a 3D outline of the sidewalk which is accurately based upon topo information from a survey. Yes we're using 2008. I'll look into floor point edits. In addition I would like to create a surface out of the topo outline that I have but I'm at a loss as to how to constrain the surface to the outline.

Any ideas?

Thanks,

In revit the boundary of the topo is defined by the outwardmost survey points.  These become boundary points.  Generally what I do is, if i have enough information that i can extend the topo beyond the boundary of the site, I then use the split surface tool to cut the topo to the appropriate size and then delete the unwanted section.  If you don't have enough survey data than its a bit of a bugger, especially if you've already modelled the topo.  As to add new boundary points they must be added on the existing boundary and then dragged out to where you want them.  You will also need to extrapolate their elevations...

I hope i'm on the right path with the help?

This is how I did it:

1. I created a 3D line drawing of the curb.

2. I imported that into the revit model and used the filled region command, in elevation, selecting my curb lines for a boundary, to hatch the extent of where the curb meets the building.

3. I used this edge to study the grading and then adjust the building slabs and storefront.

The 3D aproach doesn't offer the most direct solution.
