Alright all you parametric modelers set me straight. I'm using REVIT Architecture 2008 and I'm building a nested family model that is called Pergola. Nested in Pergola are the components 1x4, 1x6, 1x8 so and so forth. Each of the nested families has a parameter called Height. I want the Pegola model to read the value of Height based on the 1x compenent that is placed in the model. Then the spacing 1x material across the top of the Pergola is a function of the height of the top piece. Make sense? I don't know if this is how shared parameters are to be used, but I'm trying it and any advice would be great. Thanks

Post the family. Sounds like you just need to link the Height parameters of the nested element to the host family types.

Here they are. I haven't made the parameter that spaces them appropriately, but I know how to do that. Thanks

Mr. Spot, I know this thread is kind of old but i will hope it gets picked up on... Can you elaborate on how to link nested parameters to hosts? I am trying to develop some fairly complex families and it would be very helpful if i could have parameters from a nested family drive formulas/geometry in a host family. I have tried using "shared" parameters but, much to my chagrin, they don't really work that way. R

It's a one-way pass...host to nest - not vica-versa.

>>It's a one-way pass...host to nest - not vica-versa. Is there a formula or sytax to make that happen? I don't care which way the direction goes, I just need a distance parameter from one family to drive geometry in another...I can make it work either direction. Has anyone else ever tried to do such craziness before? Please Help!
