Hi

I've drawn a rectangular concrete beam. In it's properties dialog under Instance parameters > Materials & Finishes it has Beam Material set to <By Category>. Where is this category set? I tried Object Styles & looked under Structural Framing but could see nothing relating to beams. Am I looking in the right place?

Thanks in Advance

Yes, you're in the right place. It probably isn't listed as a sub category, just the category of "structural framing" so you don't have to click the little "+" symbol at all. You can give it a subcategory if you like. Just make sure you edit the subcategory in the family if you want to continue to have it have a subcategory you can manipulate easier.

So if you want to change say the surface pattern in your project without changing anything at the moment, click in the material part in the "structural framing" box and assign all the materials and hatches to it you would like. It should change for you. If not, there could be something in your family to check out. If you still have problems, you can post it, but it looks like the standard family that comes with the program.
