I am probably missing some stupid little setting, but I have been fighting this silly thing for an hour!  I created a component usind the create in place.  I built this thing just fine.  I finished the sketch and have this thing floating in space.  It is a decorative truss that I want to use in many places.  Now that it is made, I cannot move it out of the plane that it was created in.  I also can't find it in my compnent list to insert another one.  I try to edit it's properties, and it does not have a name associated with it.  I just want to move this thing out of the plane and copy it around the building.  Any thoughts?

In-place familes [what you created] are intented for a single instance one time one project use.

Whitout seeing what and how you created it is tough to give any guidance.  Did you use an extrusion?  What are it's start and stop properties?  What level is the sketch tied to?  Was it workplane based?

Post a project snippet if you can.

That's too bad.  I am creating a decorative truss that will attached to the each gable.  So, I thought that it would make sense to create a component to do that.  When I clicked on the Compenent in the Basics menu, it gave me a creat in place option.  I thought, "perfect!  I can create it here using the model as a background so that everything is the right size etc, and then copy it around"

Once Iclicke on the create in place, I selected generic models for the family category, gave it a name, then the family editor opened, I created the opjects using solid forms/extrusions and then finished the family.  Is it possible to take this and make it a regular old component?  If not, is there some way to create a component in the model (so that I can use the model for reference)?

I'm not sure what a project snippet is, so I don't know how to post one?
