Windows are one of the most complex families to make.  If yu are new to Revit it is best to find contnet made by someone else and use that until you gain a deeper understanding of Revit and the family editor.  Autodeskhas a number of triple casements on the Revit Web Library.

http://revit.autodesk.com/library/html/index.html

When you are loading a family click on the Web Library icon to get there from the load family dialog box.

For family tutorials check out this site, and www.dgcad.com

Hey there, I'm not making a post to help you out, but it is related to windows. I have also played about with windows for a few hours but cannot manage to edit them, but I was wandering whether its easy to change the materials, does it depend on the window I'm editing?. Can anyone explain how to do that in less than 3 lines? Thanks in advance!

hopefully, your window in question has subcategories. Then in your project, you can just assign materials to your subcategories under Settings>Object Styles. You wouldn't need to edit your family at all.

Otherwise, make your own subcategories in your family under Settings>Object Styles.

THEN select your geometry you want to assign materials to and select the proper subcategory under properties.

This is the proper way to do it in my opinion, but you can also just select the geometry in your family editor, go to the properties, make sure there's no subcategories and assign a material to it.

Your subcategories make your family a more powerful tool. It makes it easier to change all these settings.

I know, not less than 3 lines LOL.

I would disagree with this as the "proper way".

Best way is (IMHO):

Select the Solid in the family you want to assign the material to.

Go to its properties and next to the material parameter there is a grey box to the far right.  Click it

You are now given a window to select a parameter for this material.  If you don't have one, click add a parameter and name it appropriately.

Now you'll easily be able to change this elements materials from in the project by go to the elements type properties or if you made it an instance, its instance parameters.

HTH.

owned by Mr. Spot! LOL, you are right I should have said a GOOD way, but not the only way. Material parameters are a great way to do this and better.
