Hi everyone:

Here is what I have not been able to resolved for a while. I hope one of you has the answer.

I have a simple family ( a 3D box that represents generic equipment). In floor plan it shows as a dashed lined rectable and it has parameter for a tag once its places into a project. It also has stretachable parameters so that I can get any size equipment space I want. All this works great. However, since I may have several of these equipment spaces in a room they all need to have an instance parameter text(or label) in the middle of it so that I can have the option of labeling one of these spaces. I want to select the space component I created and I want the label/ text in the middle to turn blue or have a blue ? so that I can type in what I want in there as an instance parameter.

I tried several ways of doing it and it does not work. I created a generic tag and imported it into the my equipment space family and I get a blue ? so that works. However, when I take the equipment space family/component into my floor plan the text/label inside the equip. spaces does not turn blue, it is not editable per instance.

Your help is appreciated.Thanks

doing it the same as you would do a title block label would be one option

Are you loading your shared parameter called 'Key note' into yuor project and assigning it to the approriate category?

Just creating the shared parameter and using it in the family does not load that shared parameter into the project.

I would also choose a different name than Key Note for your parameter name as that is one of the standard Revit parameter names.  Revit like all databases likes unique names for fields.

When you bring the tag into your space family you need to assign a new parameter in the space family that controls the parameter in the tag family.  So, once the tag is in the space family, select the tag and open its properties.  In the instance properties find the label parameter and click the tiny grey box next to it to set a parameter.  Now when it (the space family) is brought into a project you should be able to adjust the label in the nested tag family.

I think this will do your trick.  Let me know how it goes.

I've tried all that was suggested and nothing is working for me. I work on various types of parametric families and work on all kinds of modeling and some formulas in Revit, but I can not get this simple component/family to work correctly.

here is a step by step process:

new generic annotation:

file;new;annotation symbol;generic annotation;

once in file, i go to LABEL from the selection and place it in the middle of the green references; select parameter window comes up; i add new parameter name "ID" ; discipline COMMON; type TEXT; group parameter OTHER; and I choose INSTANCE.

I save it and then import into my family for "equipment Space"

Once in equipment space family I place annotation by selecting SYMBOL from the selection on the left hand side.

I place the annotation/symbol I just created into my family.

Once I place it, I select it, I check the "INSTANCE PARAMETER" above add parameter which I do on the pull-down where it says "Label" next to the instance Parameter check box.

in the PARAMETER PROPERTIES dialog box, I have a choice of FAMILY PARAMETER or SHARED PARAMETER. Shared parameter gives me an error so it seems I can't have shared parameters. So I choose Family parameter. The greyed out options stay that way and I choose group parameter under 'OTHER" and make it an intance. I say ok and save.

I load it into my project and it does not work. The question mark in the equipment space component is red not blue. Any ideas? I've attached a rvt file, download it and try it. thanks.

By the way, when I try to add a shared parameter to the generic annotation in the equip space family, i get this " Please select a parameter of type "Family Type: Generic Annotation". what does this mean? I do'nt know how to choose any other parameter. I create new ones under different TYPES, but does't seem to work.

I downloaded your family.  Then, edited it, just the way I explained above.  I imported it into a project, and it works just fine.  The label is an instance label so, it can be different on all instances, but the label isn't blue.  I don't know how much the blue label means to you.  Typically only links are displayed as blue.  The label is simply edited in the properties dialog.
