I appoligize if this has already been answered, I looked but could not find the answer. I have created a legend view that I am using for by door types. I created one legend for all the doors. What I need to be able to do is tag the doors using a tag that conveys the correct number. I could use a "dumb" tag that can be manually updated for each door but this seems counter "revit". Any help would greatly be appreciated.

Usually, it works the other way around: you tag the doors, then create the schedule.  You can then select all the doors that you want to be tagged a certain number and change their 'Type Mark' to the number you want.  The schedule should change accordingly.

As far as getting the doors to tag 'correctly' according to your legend, you can try this (but be ready to Undo the operation if it produces undesired effects):

Select all the doors you want tagged as 'Door A'.  In the 'Mark' parameter, enter 'Door A' (or whatever  you want it to be tagged as.  Preferably according to your legend Smile).  Hit 'OK'.  It will probably fuss at you for having duplicate marks, but that's the way you're doing things so tell it to hush and check to see if that's what you wanted.

In the future I would really look at doing it the other way since it makes it much easier when you change a door type or decide this door needs to be Type B instead of Type D.

Let me know if this is what you were looking for.  Good luck!

You fell victim to one of the classic blunders. The most famous is never get involved in a land war in asia, but only slightly less well known is this! Never go in against a Sicilian when death is on the line!
