Dear Sir/ Madam

I am currently undertaking a Bachelor of Science Degree in Architectural Technology at Northumbria University. In fulfilment of this dissertation I am required to research a topic area and produce a dissertation. The topic I have chosen is Implementing Computer Aided Design Software in an Architectural Office. With the main focus on:

  • The changes that are currently occurring in Architectural Design.
  • The different methods of implementing new design software.
  • Effectiveness of current training practices.

I would be very grateful if you could complete the attached questionnaire and return it by e-mail via OmegaKnightRed@googlemail.com.

Needless to say, the information provided will be treated with strict confidence and individual firms/ individual will not be identified.

Many Thanks

Regards

OmegaKnight

Questions

1. What Architectural Computer Aided Design software package (please include the version number) do you currently use?

2. Is the software capable of designing in three dimensions (3D) and/or creating visualisations (i.e. Renders, Fly-overs, Walkthroughs, etc.)? If so, do you use this feature of the software?

3. How long have you been using this version of the software?

4. How much training did you receive [before / during / after] (*delete as applicable) the implementation of the software?

5. What sort of training did you receive? (i.e. in-house training, formal courses, online training, self-taught, etc.)

6. How did you find the training you received? Do you feel it was long enough? Did it cover more than the basics of the software?

7. How long were you provided with in-house or external support (please state which) after the implementation of the software in your office?

8. Do you feel as though you received enough training and support to be reasonably proficient in the new software?

9. Are you allowed ‘play time’ with the software, that is, non-productive time spent learning the boundaries of the software and developing your knowledge of the software?

10. What are your views on the future of architectural design, with reference to the move towards 3D modelling as opposed to traditional 2D drafting?

Hi,

I'm doing some BIM research for my MSc (& eventually PhD). See:

 http://www-student.lboro.ac.uk/~cvajtd/

Just wondering where you got the most responses from?

You must be qualified by now, so I would be most greatful if you could fill in this online survey for me.

Thanks
