I started working on the detailing part in the Revit Struct. 4. I started framing details in drafting view by importing detail components joist, break line etc...
Is it right way to start detailing part?
Also, any idea how to import/ show structural sections like wide flange, tube, Channel etc, in cross section?
We can import AutoCAD standard details in drafting views but, It may cause file size problem...
Sectional views can be used just in one location.
Whole intent is to generate generic details library in Revit...
It would be appreciated for detailed direction...

Thanks for your response.
I understand, Revit struct. also have that library but, that can be used to laid out plans and section views.
This library is not going to help us to create stand alone details. It's required detail components....
I am still working around...
Did you created details in drafting view in Revit Building?....

In Revit Building, I can create a drafting vie, insert detail components ( such as WF sections), save the drafting view to my library and insert it in another project.  These detail components are just that ... detail items - 2d & they can be in sections, plans, elevations or drafting views.  Sections are not transferable but drafting views are.

You should be able to do the same.

There are detail components that are for detail view only and then there are the model components that are 3d elements... You can export drafting views from one job to another, detail views can be a little more tricky to import but can be done too. Seems that you are trying to use acad thinking when working with revit.... which is what I did when I started too, it is much simpler to let revit do the detailing from your model and then just add a few additional components and some notes and be done with it. My standard details are simply my acad library being imported into a drafting view. Takes a little effort to get them to import correctly by using import settings and for me we used a hand lettering font in acad and now have changed to a narrower ttf font in revit, so I usually make that change in acad before importing so I know what it is going to look like when I import and then I dont need to explode it and edit within revit... Once it is in revit it can easily be re-imported into the next project. The plan is to make a template from the jobs we have done and then when the next one comes along that has similar details all these will already be in the template, but so far each job that we have done in revit has been from different architects and are different construction types, so I have not got that far yet.
