I am needing to create a trench in a floor slab that cuts through the floor and is visible as stainless steel. Any thoughts. Attached is the profile that might give some clarification of my needs.

Depending on how much detail you want to go to.
I would just break the floor where the grate has to go (split the sketch). You could also use an in-place family floor void, if you want to keep it as one sketch.
Then create a hosted profile for your grate, add a floor slab edge to one of the edges and position the profile in the appropriate position. You can then associate the stainless steel material to the slab edge.
