What I want to do is to create a 3d path in a sweep. The only option for the path in a sweep is 2d. I'm doing a staircase with only one cylinder steel support at the center, it's in a "L-shape". So, is Solid Sweep is the only way to draw this tube? or there's other easier way? have anyone done this before? The attached drawings is what I did, but it's not accurate. What I did is I break it up into sections inorder to rotate the curve parts.

You can pick the path for a sweep in 3D. I use a mass or voids in comination to create an edge curving through 3D that can be selected. You may also try using the stair generator and pick a circular profile for a stinger to get what you are after.
