Hello all,

I am making an in-place void sweep for a specific detail on my roof fascias.  I would like to be able to link, or constrain, reference lines/planes, in the in-place family, to any future changes that I might make to the pitch of the roof, in the main model.

Any suggestions?

Thanks for any advice!

When you make your roof, place a reference plane using the pick tool and select the roof slope edge you are referencing in side elevation and lock it. When you make your void, then pick the reference plane to lock your void shape to. Maybe this can be done when making the void, but if not, do the reference plane first, then edit your void shape and constrain it to the reference plane. It should adjust to your roof if you change the slope

Well thanks for the try framerman, but unless i'm doing something wrong, I don't think the reference plane option works.  I don't understand why though.  It seems like it should be a logical constraint.  What could I be doing wrong?  I've also tried reference lines,(and planes) within the family, but to no avail.  Could I have a setting wrong?

thanks again,

Well, I just tried to do it myself and failed LOL. Maybe you can tell me what you are trying to accomplish and I can give you a different way to do it. I'm thinking you are trying to create fascia with a profile on the edge of the roof. There are easier ways, but there is work to do.
