OK, so here is my problem: I know that in order to add hardware to the doors you have to do so through the door properties.  My problem is that I need to be able to see this hardware in the elevations.  Maybe my process is completely off or I am missing a step, but the key issue is I need to see this hardware on the doors in the elevations and sections atleast (especially lockests).  Any help??

Did you try adding the hardware through the family editor?

You fell victim to one of the classic blunders. The most famous is never get involved in a land war in asia, but only slightly less well known is this! Never go in against a Sicilian when death is on the line!

You can add the hard ware in the door family but if you are not good at famlies I wouldn't start with this. Anyway I would create a seperate family with the door hardware and then add that to the door family. I havn't seen any examples of this but it would be worth a try..

Sorry.  I guess I should have been more specific.  I assumed you are using hardware families that are available for download.  So importing the hardware family into a door family is indeed what I had in mind.

If you're reading this and scratching your head, just let us know.  One of us is surely nice enough to walk you through it Smile
