I have a student in a lab of mine wating me to design this sort of dome for him. I was trying to just have a bunch of triangles and then just rotate them all, but that seems like a bit of a task so far. Anyone have any suggestions that wont take me 5 hours to do? Thanks See attachment Grant Doherty

Thats a tough one. It is a geodesic dome. I would use the massing tools and apply curtain wall parts. I'll try it and post what I get...

Looks like you did it in sketch up. Looks good.... Have you thought about makeing it parametric? It would be cool. only one parameter needed to define the whole thing. Every segment is the same lengh..

Ya you caught me, I did get it from SketchUp. I had been working on that in revit for weeks and finaly just got it in sketchup. Every time I tried it in Revit my planes would get way messed up and would start glitching when I went to rotate each triangle. My Junior design class has given me more problems this semester than my Senior design class. Im sure glad this semester is almost done. Grant Doherty

It would've also been achieveable completely in revit using model lines etc. Painful but possible. I would still do it in ACAD or SKP much easier... Maybe one day we will have an option to triangulate a revolve in both directions.

I started it in Revit using Reference Lines and Assigning planes, but for some reason the plans would seem to glitch and the objects wouldnt rotate correctly. I dont know, I had it once, but the triangles I used were not formulated right, so it looked weird at the top. After I got the triangles corrected I couldnt get it again. I spent way too much time on this.
