Hi.  I'm modeiling a sneeze guard family and I was wondering if anyone knew if there was a way to swap out parts?  For instance, when the guard is brought in to a project could the user choose if they want to use the sq profile or the round on a prebuilt peice? Swap it out later if they changed their mind?  NWIM?  Also these guards need to have a support every 48" so ideally it would be great if I could set it up so that the user picks the beginning of the run and the end of the run and then Revit would add the support every 48".  Impossible?  otherwise I'll just build it so that it's in 48" segments.

Thanks!

For your supports you will want to set up an array.  Once you get the first one in place, array the other end as a "Move to last".  Then set the number of the array to a parameter.  In the family type dialog, set up a formula for the array as = Width/4' + 1.  You may need to work on the formula a bit until it behaves the way you want it to.  As for the profile of your frame.  Try setting it up as a sweep.  In the sweep set the profile to have a parameter that the user can set later.  This should solve both of your problems.  Let me know how it works.

Family editing is not easy, and requires a lot of patients.  Good luck.

I have had little luck setting up multiple sweep parameters that are adjustable without editing the family. I would make the 2 or 3 options as separate families and import them into the Sneeze family. In the Sneeze family I would add a "family" parameter that references the loaded families. I have used this a lot for cabinets with various door styles and interior doors with various panels. Let me know if you need more help... Don't want to go to far if it is obvious what I am describing.

Thank you both.  I will try your suggestions.  I have another question for you - is there any way to blend or join extrustions?  I am creating these rails and I have one that is vertical, one thea is horizontal and one that is at a 45 and I'd like to join them all with a welded joint.  The extrusion also has a recess in the extrusion where the galss will go.  See attached.  i'm breaking a sweat here - tough but fun.

Thanks.

How did that sneeze guard turn out? Just started one and saw this post. Any hints to help make it parametric?
