We are trying to create a variety of floor types with different floor patterns to show floor finishes. We are duplicating and renaming a floor (system) family and assigning a fill pattern. When we duplicate and rename the system family to assign a different pattern, both the new family and the old one display the same fill pattern (the first floor type still lists the original pattern in the properties, but displays the other). So, we can't set up, for example, a 4" tile pattern and a 12" tile pattern. We must be doing something obviously wrong here, but we can't figure it out.

Your surface patterns are assigned to a material. If you are using the same material then you will get the same surface pattern.
