My revit file is approaching 150 megs and navigation in the file is starting to slow way down. The model is only going to grow as more detail is added to it. I expect at this point it will be around 250 megs when its all said and done.

What I'm wondering is what hardware advances will/does revit plan to take advantage of, for performance gains.  I'm currently using 9.1. System specs are...

(2) Xeon (duel core) at 3.00ghz.

4 gigs of DDR2. (but xp only sees 3.25.)

 Nvidia Quadro FX1400

Dell Prescison 670 workstation.

What I'm hoping is that revit could in the next release take advantage of multiple cores. Any news or word on that? Also, would duel (SLI/Crossfire) videos cards give me any substantial improvements now, or in the next release? Any word one the 2008 line being Vista compatible? I'd assume it is but haven't seen anything.

Look into the 3GB switch if your system is not already setup to use it (look in the help menu).  Then there's the typical solutions: divide it into worksets and only have the ones you need open, purge unused families (in the file menu), eliminate any captured renderings that are saved within the file, if you're working in a 3d view, turn off shading and shadows, and then the obvious; be sure you're only modeling what needs to be modeled.  Do you really need ALL of the toilets to be 3d?  This should get you started.

Let us know what works best.  Good Luck.

You fell victim to one of the classic blunders. The most famous is never get involved in a land war in asia, but only slightly less well known is this! Never go in against a Sicilian when death is on the line!

Actually. I have all of that. 3gig switch is on. The model is divided into 10 worksets and I only work in/have on the one I'm modeling in. I haven't even begun to model most of the interior, so right now there aren't any 3d objects such as toilets, sinks, etc. The interior is mainly walls with reveals/sweeps and generic models to get the elevations as close as I can to how its going to be. I've never had shadows on when modeling, for the obvious, I mainly keep it on hidden line. This model is constantly being used for final renders (in lightscape,) so the modeling needs to be as accurate as possible. Most of what is driving the size of this model right now is the detail in the custom fixtures/doors/windows, etc. I think I have some door models around 4 megs. Smile

Info on the 3G Switch is also available in the Revit Help file and User's Manual (if you ordered it).
